“Our Mutual Friend” by Charles Dickens, published 1867 while he was still alive! Pretty cool if you think about it. In leu of a prologue Dickens has included a cheeky post script regarding the main character of his story.
The cover is a rusty red color, textured, and bound by embossed cloth boards as is typical for Victorian era. The spine has gold engraved on title and authors name as was typical for parlor and library books. Meaning, this book was largely for display in the well to do homes.
Considering its age, it is in good condition. Fully intact but LOOSE binding, the illustrations still have the clear covering and there is pencil marks on the front and back empty pages. Looks like a number game or golf scores. Maybe a code to unlock the ghost of Dickens…
