This is vintage, original film poster for Oscar-winning, box office blockbuster smash classic film “The Sting”, a 1973 American caper set in 1936 involving complex plot by 2 grifters (Paul Newman, Robert Redford) to con mob boss (Robert Shaw). It was directed by George Roy Hill who had directed Newman and Redford in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”. Story was inspired by real-life cons perpetrated by Gondorff brothers & written about by David Maurer in 1940 book “The Big Con”. Title phrase “The Sting” refers to moment when con artist finishes "play" & takes mark’s money. If con is successful, mark doesn’t know he has been cheated until con men are long gone, if at all.
Unrestored 1-Sheet (27" X 41") poster is in very fine condition with sharp, vivid color & graphic design. Poster has general signs of use such as light edge wear, creases, slight fold separation & fold wear. It is 1 of biggest hits of all time & won 7 Oscars including Best Picture. Redford was nominated Best Actor.
