Vintage. Hand carved wood picture. Kitsch Dog. Signed JM

This is a fun piece, hand carved with a cartoon style, kitsch dog. Skilfully carved with attention to detail. Finer lines carved for his mop of hair with other parts being smooth and at varying depths. He’s wearing a bow, sat on a cushion, a slipper in-front of him and one in his mouth. The initials carved in to the back are JM. I believe this could be by the artist John Mainwaring who created cartoon art work in his early career. I’ve sent pictures of the signature to a gallery who display his work. They replied to say it could be and they’d get back to me but unfortunately haven’t.
