Vintage MCM Impressionist Painting of Docks and Boats Monochrome with Color Pops

If you feel that this painting is simple yet warm, then you’re feeling the same thing I am. This MCM Painting of Boats and the Dock is painted simply. There isn’t a lot of fine detail and buildings, boat, etc are very basically painted with lots of straight lines, further adding to the simplicity of this painting. The almost monochrome color, beige, which the artist uses for almost the entire painting makes the final argument that simplicity was one of the artists impressions.

Maybe this was done to underscore the simple geometry of the buildings and boats. Or, maybe everything that day in that light at that moment seemed to wash out and run together. But the artist, did place random pops of color here and there to further warm his painting and to accentuate the 3D effect he was going for. But again he keeps it simple, choosing only red and blue as colors. Sometimes less is more, and I feel this to be a good example of that mantra. I like it. It’s a nice size at 26 x 22.
